James Avery Receives Safety Award at Texas Safety Summit

KERRVILLE, TX (July 9, 2009) – On May 14, 2009, James Avery, a family-owned jewelry retailer, was recognized by The Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation (TDI-DWC) for their exemplary safety program at the 13th Annual Safety and Health Conference, at the Texas Safety Summit in Austin. First recognized in 1996, and again in 2007, James Avery is a three-time recipient of this honorable award.

Across the state of Texas each year, the Texas Department of Insurance Peer Review Safety Recognition Program awards companies with approved safety programs that serve as examples and create industry standards for companies interested in employing a workplace safety program.

This distinguished honor recognizes the jewelry retailer and manufacturer’s core of safety policies and procedures implemented throughout the company. James Avery shows their commitment to employee safety by allocating significant financial and human resources to a dedicated safety department, monthly safety meetings with representatives from all corporate divisions, widespread safety programs, and by setting the mindset and expectation that safety is everyone’s responsibility and that all work is to be done in a safe manner. To reduce and ultimately prevent work hazards or incidents, employees are educated in accident prevention and awareness, safety inspections and accident investigations. All 1,500 employees are encouraged to participate in various safety committees and the “Safety Suggestion/Hazard Recognition” program. The company also maintains commendable safety manuals and written policies, which are made available to every employee. As a result of their safety initiatives, James Avery’s Injury Incident Rate is below national industry average.

Chris Avery, chief executive officer, comments: “We are proud to receive this award and recognition. As a company, we strive for excellence in safety initiatives throughout all aspects of our company, including our production facilities, retail stores, and all corporate divisions.  We will continue to emphasize our safety policies and procedures in order to make our workplace the best environment possible.”
